Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) is one of several rescue and shelter software packages that uploads adoptable animal data to RescueGroups.org.

If the service you are currently using isn't doing everything they could to help you and your animals, please consider switching to one of the community-focused companies which are working with the rescue community.

To upload animal data from Animal Shelter Manager to RescueGroups.org, you must have an account with RescueGroups.org, and a RescueGroups.org FTP account.  

Existing Animal Records

Please know that if you choose to use our Import Account feature to import data automatically from any third party system, this action will NOT affect any pre-existing animal record that is currently listed in your RescueGroups.org account. An Import Account can only add, or edit animal records that have previously been added by that specific Import Account. If you plan to only have your Import Account load animals to your RescueGroups.org account, we would recommend that you delete pre-existing animal records in your RescueGroups.org account, prior to loading your first import file. This will help to ensure your animal records are accurate and avoid duplicate or outdated animal records.

Signing up for a RescueGroups.org account

  1. Go to https://rescuegroups.org.
  2. Click the Sign Up  link from the top menu bar.
  3. Fill out the information on the form.

Creating an FTP account

  1. Log in to your account at https://rescuegroups.org.
  2. Go to Services > FTP Account.  If you do not already have an account, it will automatically create one for you just by going to this page.

Creating a data import from ASM

Follow these instructions to create an import for your data from ASM.  See the chapter,  Using the import accounts feature  for additional information about adding an Import Account.

  1. Log in to your account at https://rescuegroups.org.
  2. Go to Animals > Imports.
  3. Click Add an Import Account.
  4. Select Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) for Configuration Type.

  5. Enter the File Name that ASM will be uploading (which is typically pets.csv).

  6. Click Save Import Account.

NOTE

We recommend that you enter your email address so that you can be alerted concerning import errors.

Configure the ASM upload according to the instructions from ASM.  Use the FTP account information for the upload.  If you need help configuring ASM please contact ASM support.
