The Website Service Related Settings enables you to customize the pages for your animals on your website.

The settings that pertain to animals are described in this chapter. Many of these settings pertain to the animal web pages also called the Animal Detail pages. Below is an example of an animal detail page.

Customizing the appearance of the Animal Detail pages

The following are built-in options and settings for changing what appears on the Animal Detail page, (for more information about each, click the name).

Page Layout

Choose one of the layouts from the Animal detail page layout drop-down menu by tapping the layout you want to try. For more information about layouts, see Selecting a website layout.

In the Animal Detail page below, the picture is in the default style, in the center of the page. You can move the picture to the left with the description above or below it.

An example of a page with the image to the left is here:

Use a popover to display animal details

When you enable this option, the Animal Detail page appears as a popup page when a visitor clicks the animal's name from the list.

Show the Animal Detail page share button

See the screenshot above of Nod's web page. This option enables your visitor to select a social media outlet such as their Facebook account, by which to share an adoptable animal to their friends, or to help you promote an animal in need of a home. In the example above, the sharing box is under the animal's picture. Visitors to the page can click the Share button to get a list of social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, LINE, Kakao, and many other social media sites through which they can share the animal's page.

Disable the Adoption Information link on courtesy animals

You can elect to remove the Adoption link from the Animal Detail page. This is helpful if you do not want to use the built-in Adoption Info page for your courtesy listing animals. Often the animal is not part of the organization and visitors may be asked to contact the person listed in the courtesy post directly rather than filling out an adoption application on the organization's website. The adoption link lists the status and if available, a link to the adoption information page.

Adoption Info Enabled

Show DogTime.com content

Dogtime.com is part of a large network of pet bloggers and sites, offering readers a variety of topics about pet, and especially dog, care. Enabling this link puts the Learn more about link to the dog breed of the dog in question on that dog's information page.

Learn more about ...

Show a link on the Animal detail page to Save-a-Dog or Save-a-Cat on DogTime.com

This feature is depreciated as Save-a-Dog and Save-a-Cat no longer exist.

How many Events to show

If you use the Events feature, you can specify which animals will be attending each event. See the chapter, About Events for more information about events and how to adjust the settings to customize the way you display them. This How many Events to show option allows you to specify how many events to show on every animal's detail page. See the screenshot below. If the animal is not slated to attend an event, the event will still be listed.

Enable the Meet Request feature

Before you enable the Meet Request feature, enable Events and add an Event. See the chapter About Events for more information about using the Events feature. Once Events are enabled and at least one event is added, when you enable the Meet Request feature, this message will appear at the bottom of the animal detail page.

Show the Adopt Me sayings

These are sayings such as, "Won't you consider adopting me?" In the example above, you can see the adoption link under Nod's picture. Note that the word adopt is a clickable link to the adoption application. These sayings are randomly selected from a series of pre-written statements.

Disable the My Rescue box

Some organizations prefer to not have visitors register on their site while others prefer to have them register from a link on their menu. This option allows you to disable the My Rescue (register box) on the animal detail page.

Disable the link to the Petbond Animal adoption flyer

You can enable or disable the link visitors can use to print an animal adoption flyer for each animal.

This flyer is provided by PetBond.com, and is available only if your PetBond export is enabled.

For more information about Exports, see the About Animal Exports chapter.  Exports are enabled by going to Animals > Exports.

Disable the Animal favorite count

When a visitor has the My Rescue feature activated by registering on your site, they can see how many other people have picked the animal they are looking at as a favorite. For more information about My Rescue and about animal favorites, see the chapters, My Rescue and My Favorite Animals. Once you've enabled the favorite animal count, when a visitor who has the my Rescue feature activated looks at an animal's page, they will see the number of favorites as in the example below.

Example: "..favorite of 18 people"

Disable public access to Animal successes

You can list your adoptions on your site so that a visitor can look for an animal to see whether or not it has been adopted. Disable this option if you do not want to display your adopted animals.

For more information about adoptions, animal successes, and tracking adoptions, refer to the following chapters:

Disable Animal success stories

Animal success stories are different from adoptions. You create the Animal Success Story that is listed on the website. You can use this feature or disable it. Often organizations disable it if they have no volunteers with the time or skill to write these stories. If you disable it, you can still allow visitors to view the adoptions.

For more information about Animal Success Stories, read the chapter, Using the Animals Success Story feature.

Disable this feature if you do not want to use the Stories feature.

Show transferred Animals with successes

You can elect to have animals which were transferred out of your organization and into another rescue listed as successful adoptions. This is helpful if you are an organization, for instance, that partners with another organization in another city and your animals are pulled from shelters, vetted, and sent to the new city for adoption.

If you want to show animals you transferred out of your organization with your successful adoptions, enable this function.

Show Animal Links on Animal List and Layout #7

Layout 7 can be previewed from Website > Layouts.

Show Highlighted Animals on the Animal Home Page

There is a web page named Animal Home Page. If you use this built-in page, you can show your highlighted animals on it automatically by enabling this setting.

See below for what the highlighted animals would look like on your home page.

Settings for customizing animal images

There are several settings to help you customize the animal images on your website:

  • Set the Animal image border - choose whether or not you'd like to add a border to your animal images.

  • Set the Animal image border style - if you use a border, you can select from one of two borders, a 1one-pixel border or a border with a colored matte around it.

  • Set the Animal image border color - select the color of the border around your animal images. If you want a black border, select blank. For both this selection and the matte color, use the ColorPicker (the square with the colored boxes to the right of the field) to select a color. See the screenshot below.
  • Set the Animal image matte color - choose the color of the matte to surround the image and border by using the ColorPicker. The blank selection gives a transparent matte.

Handing videos in Animal descriptions

If you want to include a video in the animal descriptions on your website, you can select to have a video embedded in the description, or to have a link to the video in the description.

Disable videos in Animal descriptions

You can embed YouTube videos in the animal descriptions by enabling this setting. If you do not want to embed the video into the animal's description you can select the next option, to use a link to the video instead.

They will display as the opening image and a caption.

Use a link instead of embedding the video in Animal descriptions

If you do not want a preview of the video and prefer a link instead.

Disable the message that animal ages are best estimates

This is a straightforward selection. When you've entered a birthdate for an animal (which we recommend you do), you can automatically include a message that the age that is calculated from that birth date is the best estimate.

This is what the message looks like on the page.

The setting is as follows.

Additional features on the Animal Detail Page

Show or Hide the Caretaker/Foster Contact on the Animal Detail Page

The animal’s foster contact information will appear only if the foster’s contact information is set to Public View. Set this option in Contacts > Settings.

If you enable this setting, a visitor can select to contact the foster directly from a link under the animal's picture.

Sponsor This Pet

Select whether or not to display a link to allow visitors to sponsor this pet. An animal does not have to be up for adoption to be sponsored.

For more information about the Sponsorship feature, refer to the chapter, How to use Animal Sponsorships.

Below is the way the sponsorship link is displayed on your pages.
