We just started using Petlink chips, and the process is SO MUCH EASIER, thanks to RG and Petlink.  We still have some animals with Home Again chips, and an "emergency" supply of HA chips, just in case.  Does Home Again work with RG, like Petlink does, so that we can register via RG?

I contacted FreePetRegistry.com, asking about their registrations, as they are not a chip company - they just claim to register other companies'  chips.  That didn't make sense to me, so I asked them "We are a rescue group, Friends of Lafayette Animal Shelter. We use RescueGroups.org. It's my understanding that we can do registrations through RG, to the Free Pet Registry - is that correct? How does the chip company, i.e. Avid, get the registration information? Can we upload a photo of the pet?"

This was the response I got (verbatim, copied and pasted): "We do have an option to register as a Rescue Group, That will give you access to all the pets you own and allow you to register an individual owner to that chip and you choose to be the primary or secondary owner. If the rescue does not have the time register each owner , The owner can call or go to our website FreePetChipRegisty.com and self register. If the Pet has had a Previous , to make a transfer from a previous owner to the rescue,We would need surrender or In-Take paperwork to transfer over. If that is not provided we do have an option to email the previous owner and have them release the chip to the rescue. We unfortunately do not have an option to upload photos, but can add all the details of the pet, Breed, color, age, and descriptions. Hope this has helped you, If you do have any further question. Please contact us at our main number listed below."

Aside from the poor grammar and weird punctuation, the response basically says that this service just puts the chip numbers in their database.  The chip is not actually registered with the manufacturer (i.e. Avid).  Additionally, they do not have the capability to upload photos.  Not a very useful service, imho.  And a bit misleading, as they suggest that the chips are actually registered.  So for example, if a dog with a chip registered only with FreePetRegistry.com gets scanned, and he/she has an Avid chip, and the finder calls Avid, Avid will say that this chip has never been registered.

Richard is there anything on the books to work with other companies? We use petlink. But some dogs come in already chipped. We would prefer to not use FreePetChipRegistry.com

          Patty,

The only two registries that we are integrated with currently are FreePetChipRegistry.com and Petlink.  The Home Again chips can be registered to FreePetChipRegistry.com.
