Hello, I am curious if RescueGroups has thought of or would consider a portal for lost and found pets? I admin a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/lostpetsofvolusia/ and have been looking for a portal to get the lost and found animal posts to local shelters, rescue groups and other lost/found pet groups and pages. We have also been looking for a searchable portal to help us quickly find lost/found animal posts as Facebook has glitches, many animal posts seem to disappear without the post being deleted making the animal post difficult to find when a match has been made. We have grown to almost 7000 with 16000 to 30000 post reaches in less then 2 years. Our page and many others have helped countless animals home, a portal could only help increase the possibility of lost pets being reunited, keeping them from being homeless.

      Tammy,

We currently do not have any plans to provide our own publicly searchable websites for pets.  For adoptable and lost/found pets we have instead been working with other parties that provide those public websites.  We do share found pet information via our API so that websites that offer public searches for found pets can use the data.

        Hi Tammy,

        Have you looked into helpinglostpets.com

It started in Canada, and has spread into the US.  Enrollment is free and there are a ton of cool features associated with it.  For instance, pet guardians add their pets with pictures and stay invisible until the pet is lost at which point a simple click to change status to lost or stolen, sends out a broadcast of that pet's details to members.  Other things like once the status has changed to Lost Stolen, the pet guardian can instantly print posters for the door to door search end of things.

Shelters are starting to join, and they post the found pets.  The system itself looks for matches.  The system is proving to be effective, but would be more so with increased membership.

The platform was created by Rob Goddard, one of the founders of Helping Homeless Pets here in Canada.  He thought that with enough members on the HeLP app, there would ultimately be fewer homeless pets that needed help.

        Cheers,

        Ann

Thank-you Ann, I will surely check into Helping Lost Pets. I have heard and certainly shared quite a few posts of local pets using that service but hadn't thought about the possible database concept. Thank-you again! Tammy

Hi Tammy. HelpingLostPets is connected with RescueGroups.org. So any shelter using RescueGroups can send both their Found Pets and Adoptable Pets to us. We have shelters already doing that, Rescues can send their adoptable pets to us. It's fully automated and FREE too!
