Multiple Intakes for same animal

It seems like we should be able to track multiple intakes for the same animal, but I keep receiving an error message that states: Unable to add the record as it already exists.

This is what happened - we took in a dog from animal control (recorded as an intake), the dog was adopted out (recorded as an adoption), the adopter dumped the dog in boarding and I'm trying to record the second intake of the same dog from the boarding facility, but it won't let me have 2 intakes for the same animal ... Help?

      You can have only one open Intake at any time for each animal.  If you already have an animal you must create an Outcome that closes out that Intake.  Then you can create another Intake if the animal comes back into your care.

      It sounds like you created an Adoption, but you really needed to create an Outcome with the type of Adoption.  I believe the system will automatically create the adoption record for you.

        I accidentally created an outcome of a transfer that's linked to that intake, but I should've made the outcome an adoption .... do you know how I delete that outcome now in order to re-do it?

      I don't use the intakes/outcomes feature, but I'm fairly certain there is only one intake and maybe also one final outcome for each dog.  In between there may be returns or other events, but consider "intake" as "initial intake", then notate any events that happen after that (return, transfer or whatever options you have).
