We would like to request that the breed type "MUTT" be listed under the dropdown Select a Breed in the portal when adding a new dog to the database.  OR, we would ask that the portal be improved/revised to allow you to add a dog without having to select a specific breed type at all (the portal currently does not allow you to complete without a breed type selected.)

As many of the shelters across the country are moving towards no longer listing incoming dogs according to breed types, we would very much like to do the same, and instead let the bio and the pictures alone sell the dog, rather than limiting our exposure by breed name alone.

This would give dogs, particularly those mixed breeds who’ve been labeled pit bulls – a better chance at adoption especially since a breed label is not always the best indicator of a shelter dog’s personality or behavior.

We've  also found that a good majority of the time, "educated guess" labels are found to have been wildly inaccurate, upon conducting a DNA test of the dog.

We ask that RescueGroups please help us in promoting more dogs' adoptions by eliminating the neccessity of choosing a specific breed in order to upload the dog to the database.

Thank you!

I know it's not really an "answer" but we can't add breeds that aren't supported (or can't be mapped to supported breeds) on the adoption listing websites.

So we could theoretically add mutt breed(s), but they could only be used inside the RescueGroups.org system.

This has actually already been brought up:

Perhaps we can figure out a solution to being able to export to the adoption listing websites.  Most of the adoption websites have a breed search, and so pets with mixed breeds might be missed by potential adopters.

      We're open to suggestions!

That's what i was afraid of....so all of the partner sites, AdoptaPet, PetHarbor etc. would all have to change their side first, to incorporate Mix or Mutt as a breed, to their side before we could do it on ours....

So they only support dogs with an actual breed type? They won't support unless a breed type is selected?

Gwen, that's correct. We can't send them any pets that don't exactly match one of their breeds. We actually map (match-up) all of our breeds to breeds that they support.

Someone has to start the ball..  could you start putting in All American Mutt and maybe we could get in touch with all the other groups (Petfind.. pets911 and so on) to add it as well?  maybe we could us it as a 2nd breed till everyone is onboard ..

Tina, No, I'm sorry, but we can't. If we added a breed and it the animal with that breed didn't get exported correctly, we'd have lots of people frustrated with us. Once the adoption listing websites support the breed or can provided a breed mapping, we can add it to our system.
