Once you create multiple accounts with the adoption listing websites, you can contact our support team with your FTP information to add the accounts as Export Accounts in your RescueGroups.org account. Follow the process in the Exporting animal data to Petfinder chapter or the Exporting animal data to Adopt-a-Pet chapter.

This information applies to both the Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet.com updates. They are the only two adoption listing websites that use the location of the organization (organization's account) as the location used when searching for adoptable pets and not the location of the pet.

Adding an export account

An Export Account must be added to your account in order to send pet listings to Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet.com. They are the only two adoption listing websites that have not decided to use the RescueGroups.org API to receive adoptable pet information and therefore still require an FTP data file upload.

Please contact Petfinder and/or Adopt-a-Pet.com first to have a new account on their website created.  Then, contact RescueGroups.org support and let us know to set up that new account for exports from RescueGroups.org.

Each of your animals will then have an Export Accounts section when you view or edit the information.  For each animal, select the appropriate export account based on location.

When you add a new FTP export account, all existing animal records will have that account selected by default. Be sure to check the appropriate export accounts for all animal records in order to share only the animals you want to each FTP account. Only your Adopt-a-Pet.com and Petfinder exports appear on the animal records -- all other adoption listing websites receive your animal's actual individual location and do not depend on the organization's account zip/postal code for animal searches.
