Why did some addresses not receive the email marketing campaign when it says it was sent to them?

Please forgive me for having a lot of questions recently! I just sent out our first email marketing campaign.  It says 2159 emails sent.  But several people who are one the list did not receive the email.  We checked spam.  Not there.  Some people got it because it shows over 800 opened.
