    Heidi,

Let's start with "Add Animal".  Adding an animal simply puts them into your database.  This allows you to enter basic animal information, administrative information, animal characteristics and behaviors, description and those important photos and videos!  Our guide can walk you through how to add an animal here (there is a video too!): How to add an animal

Now "Intakes" (which are related to "Outcomes") give you increased reporting capability along with our "Adoptions" feature available with the Data Management Service or Website Service.  Intakes and Outcomes reports are useful to your organization, as you will need to use our Intakes and Outcome features to document and report on how animals come into and leave your organization.  Or, rephrased, the Intakes feature works along with the Outcomes feature to track and record information about where your pets are coming from (Intakes), and where they are going (Outcomes).

It's important to note that one animal could have multiple Intakes and Outcomes.  But each Intake can only have one Outcome, which helps with your workflow.  When an animal enters your care you would add an Intake.  When they leave your care you add an Outcome to "close out" the Intake you created.
