How do we track animals that have not yet been altered? Is there a report?

      Shirley,

Patty's suggestion is certainly a good one! Another option would be to make a custom Animals or Adoptions report (depending on your service level). Here's more information about how to create custom reports:

      Creating custom reports

For example, you could create a custom Animals report that includes animal details, and some of the adopter information as well. Then, use a filter to only include records where the Animal Altered field is equal to No, and perhaps filter the Adopted Date to "more than" the date you began adopting our unaltered animals. I've included a screenshot of what the report builder looks like for my example.

Once you build your report, be sure to save it so you can rerun it at any time. You can also share it so that your entire organization has access to the same report. As your team receives proof that animals have had their s/n surgery, be sure to edit their animal record to 'Yes' for the Altered field.

The next time you run the custom report, only animals that still have the Altered field set to No will continue to appear in the report.

While your team may certainly want to customize this example for your needs, hopefully this points you in a direction that is helpful.

A report was what I had in mind.  Thank you!

You can still put in reminders for adopted animals.  I do it all the time, to remind myself to check in every so often, or to remind them of something.  It works very well.  I would choose a date maybe in June, and if things are still like they are now, just reset the reminder to a later date.

Not sure how that would work for what we need.  Given the covid-19 restrictions and vets not doing s/n surgeries now, we are going to begin adopting out unaltered animals when necessary.  We need to be able to track who needs to submit proof of s/n once all the restrictions are lifted and surgeries are resumed.  This would involve animals already adopted with an unknown time frame as to when it could be completed.

I would use Journal entries.  That's what I use for all reminders of upcoming appointments, due dates on vacs, etc.  I would put it in as a Journal entry, with a reminder date of, say, 30 days from now, or whenever you'd like to be reminded about that animal needing to be altered.  Just a thought....
