They are required, but unlike the animal journal entry dropdowns, there is no pre-determined list. Are they free-form for any organization to define? How are these used as opposed to Animal Journal Entries? Thanks!

      Heidi,

Let me start with your question "How are these used as opposed to Animal Journal Entries?".  You are talking about the difference between Contact Journals and Animal Journals.  Contact Journals and Animal Journals are very similar in they both are used to record information your organization uses.  The difference is that Contact Journals are used in reference to your organization's contact (Potential Adopters, donors, volunteers etc.) while Animal Journals are used to track Animal Information (Vaccines, Behavior etc.).  I've linked our guide below on both items for your reference.

      Using contact journals

Now your second question is all about customizing Entry Types. Entry Types can be whatever your organization needs them to be but are handled differently depending on if they are Contact Journals or Animal Journals.

      • For Contact journals, they are not pre-set, so you must create your own list of interactions.  Note that to be able to sort a report of similar interactions, phrase the type of interaction and capitalize it the same way consistently (You can upload a document to your website for your volunteers, with the various types so that they can copy and paste).
      • For Animal Journals We have a default list of entry types you can start with but we also have the ability to add customized entries.  The guide linked here can walk you through how to add default entries and customize them for your needs: About animal journal entry types
