Does anyone have any experience tracking ownership transfers in RG?  Like if someone passes away and the animal goes to a family member or friend, how would you handle that?  Just add a second adoption even though there is only one intake and one outcome?

or if a teenager becomes an adult and assumes responsibility for the animal...

      Andrea,

Let me start by stating that there are several different ways you probably could decide to track this as an organization.   The big-picture concern is ensuring that there is an "outcome" for every "income".

My personal rescue experience that is separate from RescueGroups.org,  does a separate intake using "Owner Surrender".  There you can track the intake reason (Examples include:  Death of Owner, Change In Lifestyle (if a child takes over), Unwanted, Heath of Owner/Family).  Then, we complete another Adoption with the new owner.  This way we have records of multiple caregivers for the animal and the time period(s).  In the outcomes field you can also make notes if they stayed with family members or other important details.

Here are our guides on Incomes and Outcomes for reference.  Please note you do need the Data Management or Website Service to access these options.  However, based on your question it sounds like you already do.

      Hope this helps!

Karen, did you change the title of my question? Because I DO NOT want to use intakes and outcomes and I would not have used that wording.  This is a ownership change between family members where we do not take ownership back (intake) and redo the adoption (outcome). I know how to use intakes and outcomes and do that with EVERY dog. If I did that with this dog, it would affect our end of year government reports and skew the numbers incorrectly. This change needs to be done only to show that there is a new owner.  Nothing happens within the rescue, hence no need for intake and outcome.

        Andrea,

I did change the title to be in the form of a question to conform to the site.  I added those intake/outcome keywords to be searchable for other users.  As you did not like this change, I removed them.  In the case of government reporting, you would have to change the owner on the animal information page and use the notes field to maintain that information.

        Sincerely,

        Karen
