Hi, new user here! We have had RescueGroups create an online form that we will use as an adoption application. We will be placing a link to the application on our existing website. What pros/cons have you experienced of having applicants set up an account before submitting an application?

Originally we had everyone register to our site before they could fill out any forms. We had quite a few issues with it such as them already having another account with another rescue (it seems the database is shared in some places), people not understanding how to register or people not wanting to take that extra step, and getting duplicate contacts that would have to be cleaned up. So we turned it off and now we get more applications and it's one less thing standing in their way.

We use RG online forms for applications and have the settings so that a new record is created any time a person submits an app. What happens is, if they already have an account, and submit an app, there will be a duplicate record that you have to merge.

          Dawn,

My personal rescue uses online forms and makes it optional for applicants to set up accounts.  Generally, having an account allows them to access the "My Rescue" page. The My Rescue feature allows your visitors to customize their preferences with your web site. It also will remember the user's Favorite Animals and Favorite Breeds as well as the Forms they have started or submitted.  Generally, this is a good thing.  The only real negative is if someone is not as computer-savvy that is one more step to do before filling out an application.  Please note this feature only works if you have the RescueGroups.org website service and are not inserting the online form into your website via the Online Forms iFrame.  Hope that helps!

          Sincerely,

          Karen
