Why did a microchip I entered not get registered?

I got an error msg. that chip that I entered was not registered because it was already associated with an existing pet. When I enter the chip number to search for the animal, it comes back with the animal I was trying to enter.

      Kate,

      The error message is from the microchip Registry.  So it's possible that the microchip is already registered to an animal that is not in your RescueGroups.org database.

      If you need to re-register the chip to a new owner you may have to ask the Registry to remove the existing registration.  There is information about this in the User Guide: Automatic microchip registrations
