Hello,

I volunteer for C2CND.org and I maintain their website.

I am looking to bring our pet list in house and discontinue the iFrame technology.

In addition I planed on exporting our data to sites like adopt-a-pet and petfinder (and others) but in reading your service it sounded like RescueGroups.org could possibly be a better solution.

I have not been able to completely understand the service in total yet but I would like to see if this option is viable to me.

My requirements would be:
Keep all of my animal information in house and my site stay as the primary data source
Have an automated solution (can I ftp my data?)
I did notice that there was an option to get information "from my website"

Would ResourceGroups.org's Pet Adoption Portal be a good fit for this?

Kindest Regards

      Joe,

Although I'm not sure where you saw "get information from my website", but yes, you can upload your data via our FTP-based animal import system, or you can even update your pets via our API.  RescueGroups.org does not "pull" pet data from other sources, but you can upload your data or use the API to update your pets.

When you say "discontinue the iFrame technology" I'm imagining you are referring to the adoptable pet iframe "scrollers" that are available from Adopt-a-Pet.com and Petfinder.  If so, you are correct to be concerned that your visitors are being pushed away to a national website just to search for adoptable pets from your organization.

That's why RescueGroups.org provides the JavaScript Pet Adoption Toolkit.  It integrates an adoptable pet list and search on your website without any external links or logos/advertisements.

I mentioned these features because generally organizations don't want or need to manage the data in-house.  The RescueGroups.org services allow you to maintain control of your data and your website while not recreating a data management system on their own website.

If you have additional specific questions we'd be happy to help you.  You could contact our support directly if you'd like.  https://support.rescuegroups.org

Note from 2019, some of this information is outdated.   So, as of 11/13/2019 when you signup, you can import your pets in a variety of ways including from Adopt-a-Pet, Petfinder and from several different partner sites.  Read more in our guide here:  Importing animal data into your account

We also have made some changes to our API, so please refer to our guide here: API Developers Guide Home

Finally, for FTP information please reference our guide here:  FTP

          Hello, it's me again,

So I got my account setup and working and I have had an opportunity to look around and do some reading.

From what I currently understand the FTP process is expected to originate from RescueGroups.org and NOT from my site.

What I was originally hoping for was to be able to create the data on my end, on my site, and then upload TO RescueGroups.org.

So at the moment, it looks like RescueGroups.org wants to be the primary source for data input.

            Thanks Richard,

If you look here: ((note-link no longer valid see comments)

Then in the Wizard Step 1: Add Animals

In the image of your directions, it says "Add from our organization's website"

(note- link no logger valid see comments)

I currently use WordPress and I will be using WooCommerce in a catalog fashion to display the pets. My ultimate goal is to have our volunteer staff enter all the pets (we foster about 250 animals at 1 time) into our website. Then on a regular basis have that information uploaded/updated to all the adoption sites.

I originally planned on using WP All Import by softly and I think that's what rescuegroups.org uses (or I thought I read that somewhere). I figure since rescuegroups.org may have already worked out all the uploads I can use this resource instead of coding a solution myself.

As soon as I get my account information and get it sorted out I would also be happy to share my experience and even code.

Thanks again - looking forward to hopefully working with this group!
