Instructions in user manual say: "The animal's name. We recommend that you do NOT add extra information to the name field (like “ADOPTED” or “URGENT”).  This field is required."

What does this impact?  Some people don't have access to RG and cannot easily see Courtesy Listings so we want to add "-CL" after the name as we have two dogs with the same name, one is a Courtesy Listing the other is not.

The recommendation to not add extra information in the animal's name is primarily coming from the Adoption Listing  websites.  The general consensus is that the animal's name really should be the animal's name, and if it doesn't have CL in the name, it's just extra characters and codes, etc. that muddy the information shown to the potential adopter.

Some organizations have even started to put the city and state of where the animal is located in the animal's name.

Part of the issue also is that some organizations will change an animal's name to include "ADOPTED" and leave the posting as available, even though the animal actually is already adopted.

Most of the additional information that is added to an animal's name is really just a work-around for the shortcomings of the adoption listing websites, including not being able to post animal-specific locations, etc.

So that's the background to that message.  Hopefully it will help you with your decision.
