Is there a way to create custom user security roles?

We would like some of volunteers to enter their own volunteer hours - and journal entries - but I don't see a way to do this without adding access to too many things, like the contact list.

      This functionality would be invaluable as we are looking to increase volunteer involvement in the management of the database and website, but do not want to provide access to more than what each person needs.

        It would be great to allow custom role creation. As it stands now, I have to select four or five roles for each person that I want to grant a certain set of permissions to. This is labor intensive and error prone. If I could create a custom role that was an aggregation of existing roles, it would make life much simpler!

          Laurel, there isn't a way to create custom security roles – but we are working on a revamp of our security roles to provide better control in cases like you mentioned.
