How to add a Microchip Vendor?

Hi there - we have several dogs that have a microchip under the Vendor Furreka! - can someone add this vendor to the list, I can't see to add it myself

      I went to submit through Jira and it will take my login and password

      Hi Karen

      thank you for the response - and yes, I know I can put in the number and leave the manufacture blank but like you said, we use this for tracking and I just wanted it added - we have quite a few dogs under this manufacture and it just drives me nuts that it can't just be added - all manufactures should be in there for those of us paying for RG and then not being able to fully put our data in for tracking - why can't it just be added? Or let us add it for our data bases individually like we can do for locations and such

        Adding things to the system requires more than just adding a dropdown and can be complicated for our operations team.  Thanks for your understanding.

      Nancy,

      To be honest, we don't know much about Furreka!,  however, you can use AVID for MicrochipID, and a request will be made through support to eventually add it to the list. The manufacturer is not terribly important as far as the entry goes. The number is the key. RescueGroups.org does not register the microchip with the manufacturer, but rather with a national, no-cost registry called FreePetChipRegistry.com. So essentially, as long as Furreka! shares information with FreePetChipRegistry.com you are set.

      So for all intents and purposes, the manufacturer is more for your own tracking purposes and should not impact your ability to register the chip.

      There is one exception to this, which are prepaid Petlink/Datamars chips that start with 98102. They can be registered directly to the manufacturer if configured to do so in your account. That is generally used when rescues/shelters microchip their own animals and have an account with Petlink/Datamars.


      All that being said, you can certainly request the vendor to be added in the future. I would recommend that you add a feature request to our Jira tracking system as described in the article below:
