Where can I find a description of all the statuses and what they are typically used for?Where can I find a description of all the statuses and what they are typically used for? Eg Treatment or Domestication. Also what is the intent for the statuses pending and hold vs unavailable.  I can only find partial information for a few of them.

      Melissa,

You  may be referring to our guide here: Managing animal status

It is true not all statuses are listed.  So our guide on managing animal status has a table that references the "big ones" and which are exported.   As Kathy suggested, you can use them as you choose.

Here is our guide on how to change a status that you also may find helpful: Changing an animal's status

Please note, although only specific statuses are "exported" to Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet.com, organizations can make any animal status public.  If you make any status public, then it allows that data to be "exported" to sites that use our API.  In the case of the services that use data from our API (listed under API exports by going to Animals>Exports)  it's then up to that service what animal statuses they want to bring into their system.

      Sincerely,
      Karen

Our organization is not using Petfinder/Adopt-a-pet,  so we have defined the statuses for our own use.  We use Pending for pending adoption.   Hold is up to the coordinator but might be used for a dog under evaluation for behavior or medical issues.    Right now, we focus on 3 statuses -   Intake (our default for a new dog),  Not Available (our choice for permanent foster dogs),  and Foster (for Foster-to-adopt) situations.

Here is a document that we made for our users.  https://www.springerrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Status-definitions.pdf
