In order to use your domain name (ex., mydomain.org) with the RescueGroups.org email services you need to complete two processes. First, make sure the domain has been added to your RescueGroups.org account so that we know the domain is associated with your organization. Then, update the Domain Name Services (DNS) records for the domain name to install a mail exchanger (MX) record so that mail can be directed to your RescueGroups.org mail host service.

Add domain name to your RescueGroups.org account

The first process you need to complete is to add the domain to your RescueGroups.org account. You can learn how to complete this in our Domain Name user guide article, Adding an existing domain to your account

Adding a domain name is not the same as registering a domain name. We need you to add a domain to your organization account so that we know you want us to associate the domain name with your organization's RescueGroups.org services.

Install MX records for your domain

Continue reading to find out how to install MX records if your domain is registered with RescueGroups.org or a third party registrar.

Our Domain Names Guide includes information about using domain names. If you are not viewing this chapter in that guide, consider reviewing it for more information.

For more information about our Email Hosting Service, see our Email Hosting/Forwarding Services guide.

Install MX records if your domain name is registered with RescueGroups.org

If your domain name is currently registered with RescueGroups.org, contact RescueGroups.org support and we can update your MX record so that incoming email is delivered to the RescueGroups.org email services.

Install MX records if your domain name is registered with a registrar other than RescueGroups.org

If your domain name is currently registered with a Registrar other than RescueGroups.org (ex., GoDaddy, Yahoo, etc), you will need to login to your account at the Registrar to update the domain name's MX record.

Please follow your Registrar's instructions for updating DNS records to add the MX record shown below:

Record type: MX
Content: host1.rescuegroups.org

You should remove any existing MX records so that the record shown above is the only MX record in your domain name.
